Week 44: Hostal Maruja and my birthday

The last week of October was about a nice lunch at Hostal Maruja with my wife and daughter, and at the end of the week, my 60th birthday, with a very low-key celebration which suited me just fine.

On Sunday, we went for lunch at Hostal Maruja, probably the last time before they close for the winter (such as it is). The terrace was crowded but appropriate distance was observed:

Part of the enjoyment of eating there is to look at the beach:

And the view from the table is not bad at all. Quite nice to see this in late October:

But in the end it is about the delicious food. One of our starters was baked cheese, the first time we tried this:

We continued with one of our favourite staples, patatas bravas:

Another favourite, fried anchovies:

While waddling out to the car for the drive home, I stopped to photograph Mickey and Minnie:

During the week, I continued my daily bike rides in the morning before going to the office. One day, I saw employees of the municipality in which I live putting up Christmas decorations. I was quite surprised, since we are only in October, and the commercial aspects of the holiday have not kicked in yet:

November 1st was my 60th birthday. It also happens that my father died on this day in 2004, so I do not celebrate much. But I still had a nice day, starting with a morning bike ride, during which I enjoyed the usual sights along the beach road:

The morning was quite hazy and cloudy, but there were other cyclists out there:

The mountains were shrouded in clouds:

Busot looks especially pretty when set against the hazy mountains:

In the afternoon, back home. We invited four friends for a late lunch / early dinner. To keep the party within the permitted limit of 6 persons, Monica went to the house of some friends who live nearby for a small Halloween party. Her outfit was not exactly scary:

We ate outside, as is the default in these Covid times:

Nereida brought an appetiser, aubergines with herbs and spices:

The main meal was prepared by me; dal, sag meat, chicken curry and vegetable curry:

Balu came too, and he did not count against the 6-person limit:
