Week 18: AMS

During that week, my best friend, Lars, passed through Amsterdam on his way home to Denmark from Marseille. We met up at Schiphol and took the train to the centre of Amsterdam to walk around a bit. Amsterdam can always be relied upon to provide photo opportunities:

We continued to the Oude Kerk to see the World Press Photo exhibition. I took this picture of Lars (who is also a photographer):

…and this self-portrait in the toilet of the church:

Walking around some more, we saw these two French tourists sharing a joint and committing their Amsterdam experience to pixels:

And this piece of urban wildlife hoping that the girl will accidentally drop her sandwich or whatever she was eating:

Earlier I was on a brief business trip to Frankfurt. I don’t know that city at all, it has always been just a place to bypass on the motorway on the way to Switzerland. But it does have some striking architecture; this sight greeted me upon emerging from Frankfurt’s Central Station:

In the evening, I stumbled upon some kind of cocktail party or similar social event near the European Central Bank:

And the streets were beautifully lit thanks to an annual light festival which was going on during my stay:
