Week 08: Alicante and Copenhagen on film

This is an unusual weekly blog. More than half of the images are film images, all made with the Leica M2 and 50mm Summilux lens on Ilford Delta 400 developed in D76. Some of these images were actually taken earlier, but since I developed the film this week, I choose to include these photos here.

I start with 4 photos from a walk in Alicante. Behind our central market there is a memorial plaque to one of the worst atrocities of the Spanish Civil War. On 25 May 1938, the Italian air force (Mussolini was one of Franco’s allies) bombed the market, killing more than 300 civilians. There was no military justification for the bombing, the sole purpose was to terrorize the population in the besieged city. In 2013, the memorial plaque was placed on the pavement behind the market hall, and here a father is explaining it to his young daughter:

Then 5 photos from a rainy morning in Copenhagen. First, the city hall in the mist:

Reflections in the wet pavement are always a good subject for B&W photography:

Normally the pedestrian street is full of people strolling, but not so much on this day:

Then back to Alicante and things I saw while cycling during the week. The spring is here, and the almond trees are in bloom:

The cats in Verdegás are always a welcome sight for me:

I finish with two pictures from home. First, morning light on our “whisky altar”:

My wife was in Puerto Rico in February and brought home some small peppers from her parents’ garden. They look pretty and have a strange taste, not spicy but quite different from other red peppers I have tasted:
