The third week of 2008 was really busy for me. In mid-week, Lars, my best friend from Denmark came for a visit. And on Saturday my wife also joined me in Alicante. The week’s pictures reflect some of those happenings.

This is the Muchavista beach, 800 metres from my house. We went to walk our dog there:

Besides being a great photographer, my friend Lars is also an excellent cook. His services were duly enlisted:
The remaining alternates are from a day trip to Valencia last Saturday.
Alternate 4
To get to Valencia from Alicante, we took the old road, N332. It took us about 4 1/2 hours to cover the 175 km, because there were many interesting things to photograph along the way. Near the town of Calpe, we saw this impressive, new Russian Orthodox church, a sign of Russian money, most of it earned in various dodgy ways, having made its way to Spain:

Of course, this little girl is presumably not aware of the origin of the money that paid for the church:

Just outside Valencia, we passed the rice fields where the rice for the local specialty, paella, is grown:

Once arrived in Valencia, we had lunch (paella, of course) at a beachside restaurant while enjoying the views:

Then we walked around the old part of Valencia:

I engaged in my usual street photography:

And then the moon came out and it was time to drive back to Alicante:
