Week 33: beach life, mostly

The summer continues, with temperatures never dropping below 30C. My son is with us for another few weeks before heading back to university, so we are just enjoying life. As usual, the images are arranged chronologically.

On Sunday my son and I went to one of the English bars in El Campello to watch the opening game of the 2011/2012 Premier League season, my beloved Liverpool vs. Sunderland. The guy at the neighbouring table had a shirt which shows that the Germans have never forgotten the 1966 World Cup final:

The bar uses satellite service from some Gulf state, as is evident during the halftime analysis. The commentary during the game is the original Sky Sports feed in English, but the halftime chat is done by local Abu Dhabi or Qatari presenters:

Meanwhile, non-English football fans were playing instead of watching:

During the week, we went to our local beach to catch some rays and read and ogle señoritas. This is my son, pretending to be intellectual:

I was not using my Leica on the beach, but at least my foot had a red dot:

Thursday night we were invited to a grill party nearby. It was held on the roof terrace of a tall apartment building:

The party provided me with a rare opportunity to look at our neighbourhood from a high vantage point:

Old candy shop sign in the centre of Alicante. I have recently begun to photograph this type of urban details before they disappear:

It is normal here in Spain to find various advertisements under the windshield wiper of your car. This is one kind you do not want to see. The service being advertised is a car junkyard:

Friday night we went to eat tapas at the nearby Lizarran, something we do frequently. A group of children were playing on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant and just popping back to their parents’ tables when they needed refueling:

Here the children are playing ambulance. There are two victims on the ground:

Finally, one of the adults appears to signal that it is time to go home. She has evidently eaten many tapas over the years:
