Week 01: Wrocław

In week 1 I was in Wroclaw, Poland, visiting my sister. All the images are from there.

The main image is an act that takes place in millions of Polish homes every time there is a festive occasion: pouring a glass of vodka:

Polish food is not for vegetarians. Here is a traditional Polish dish: a leg of pig with a kind of potato cake, liberally garnished with horseradish. Delicious!

A couple of images from the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Wroclaw, Poland. Both images were taken after midnight, so they qualify for week 1!

The last three alternates involve birds in the city. This bird was sitting in a tree near the centre of Wroclaw; after a while it got tired of me pointing the lens at him and flew away.

The final alternate is from the open air food market near my sister’s place. I was struck by the individual act of kindness. This woman spent several minutes feeding bread crumbs to one solitatory pigeon.

  1. Since WW II and the Holocaust I have no will to visit Poland, nor Germany for that matter.
