Week 46: back home

This was a quiet week, back home from Denmark, working, cycling, and socializing with friends.

On Sunday morning I cycled south to Santa Pola. The temperatures were still very agreeable but the beach very much had an end-of-season feeling, with the bars closed for the winter and not many people in the sand. But there were a few people out and about, enjoying the sunshine on the promenade:

Sunday afternoon we shared a long lunch with two other couples, Elio and Assumpta and Cani and Nereida:

A mysterious inscription on the pavement near the bakery where I buy bread. I have no idea whatsoever what this “RIP” refers to:

On Thursday evening we had our monthly wine tasting at the office. Frankly speaking, it was not my favourite; rather than the usual format of 3 whites and 3 reds, presented by a winemaker or a distributor, we had 3 champagnes paired with expensive Iberian ham and even more expensive caviar, presented by the gourmet shop from the Corte Inglés department store. Still, I tried to at least derive some photographic benefit, here with a black & white, somewhat high-key image of bubbles:

During lunchtime on Friday, I had to send a package. I went to the post office in a small town called Torrellano, about 8 km from my office. I parked down the street from the post office, and later noticed that the local church had a striking, modern-looking relief. I do not know the background, but I found this detail visually interesting:

On Saturday I stopped at the dog park to check the pet memorial tree where I hung a ribbon in memory of my late cat Taco a few weeks ago. The bushes looked nice in the morning sun:

After the park visit, I had my weekly golf lesson, and then in the early afternoon went for a bike ride in the hills:

In late afternoon, it was time to relax with a drink. The lemons came from my lemon tree, which has responded to the occasional autumn rain by yielding a decent harvest:
