Week 17: Copenhagen

In week 17 I went to Copenhagen for a few days. The drive is about 760 km and includes a 45-minute ferry trip from Puttgarten in northern Germany to Rødby in southern Denmark. From there it is only 160 km to Copenhagen. So the sight of the harbour in Rødby is one of my favourite views of the whole trip–it tells me that I am finally in Denmark and that there is not far to go:

I love Copenhagen and enjoy it mainly by walking around and taking in the city. This image is from a part of town close to, but not in the centre. The bridge is called Dronning Louises Bro (Queen Louise’s Bridge):

While walking on Købmagergade, one of the pedestrian streets in the centre, I ran into some Lyndon La Rouche nuts–yes, they have made their way to Denmark as well:

I stayed with my childhood friend Beata. She has two small children; a boy of about 1 1/2 year:

…and a girl aged four:

Later in the week, I met up with fellow member of the Leica Users Group, Mads Christensen. As always, it was a pleasure to meet a fellow member of the list in person. We went down to Nyhavn, enjoyed the glorious weather, and took some pictures:

Nyhavn is a street along a canal, full of bars. When the weather is nice, it is packed with people, mostly outside:

This girl was in a pensive mood:

The next day I went down there early in the morning, when the street was completely deserted. I watched the rising sun reflect in the water of the canal:

This was around 7.30 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The few people still out were what we call “leftovers” from various parties and late nights:
