Week 15: first steps towards re-opening

During this week I did a couple of things that are rare these days. On the Sunday we had lunch with a group of friends in a restaurant in Benidorm, and during the week I had a beer inside a bar for the first time in more than a year (it was raining). Otherwise, I continued the usual activities of working, cycling–and taking pictures.

We start with a Sunday lunch in Benidorm. The rules for restaurants have been relaxed slightly. When eating outside, you can now have 6 people to a table instead of 4 as before. So we were six couples, splitting ourselves into two tables. It was good to see people like Iñaki and Dallal again:

The restaurant was small and modest, but the food was excellent. The seafood and the fish were fresh and delicious:

Throughout our meal, we were being watched by the guard dog of the restaurant:

The next day I was out on the bicycle. On the road to Busot, a 37-year old motorcyclist had been killed in a solo accident a couple of days earlier. As is usual on these sad occasions, his friends have set up a roadside memorial on the site of the crash:

In the afternoon, it was raining, but I wanted to get out and take some bad-weather photos. And I wanted to go to the centre and have a beer at my favourite bar, Malatesta. Not many people were out and about in this weather:

I walked to Malatesta to have a couple of pints. The bar had a few people inside, and a dog too:

While enjoying my Tripel Karmeliet (one of humanity’s great creations), I photographed the “graffiti” around the bar area:

On Saturday morning I was on my bicycle again. The artsy window and door in Aigües is a continuing source of amusement for me:

The highest point of this particular ride is at about 500 meters altitude. I always stop there to take a break and take in the views. Looking north:

Other cyclists were out and about; these are some of nicest roads anywhere–good surface, virtually no cars, great views:

In the afternoon, I walked down to the beach bar Xaloc to have a pint and look at the people (and dogs):
