I decided to use the morning to explore a neighbourhood called Nadodrze (literally: &#8220;above the Odra river&#8221;). I had read that there were interesting murals to explore there, and I had never visited that neighbourhood before.<\/p>\n<p><strong>38_1<\/strong><br \/>\nI was not disappointed. Nadodrze had the vibe of a working class neighbourhood being inflitrated by artists and various &#8220;alternative&#8221; types. The book of the month was &#8220;De Aanslag&#8221; (&#8220;The Assault&#8221;) by Dutch writer Harry Mulisch. As always, Eri came well prepared and had a lot to say about the book and how she experienced it:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_11.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2475\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_12<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_12.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2474\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_13<\/strong><br \/>\nMy Dutch colleague Harrie who had selected the book:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_13.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2473\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_14<\/strong><br \/>\nMy Finnish colleague Kari:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_14.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2476\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_15<\/strong><br \/>\nOn Friday, our small mens group &#8220;Les 8 Salopards&#8221; (loosely translated from the French: &#8220;The 8 assholes&#8221;) had our monthly lunch. This time it was my turn to choose the place, and I had chosen Hostal Maruja on the beach:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_15.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_16<\/strong><br \/>\nRoberto and Christian, studying the menu:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_16.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2477\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_17<\/strong><br \/>\nThe neighbouring table:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_17.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2478\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_18<\/strong><br \/>\nOur main dish, <em>arroz de marisco<\/em>, has arrived:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_18.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2481\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_19<\/strong><br \/>\nI finish with an important event in my culinary education. I have long wanted to try <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Surstr%C3%B6mming\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Surstr%C3%B6mming', 'surstr\u00c3\u00b6mming']);\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">surstr\u00c3\u00b6mming<\/a>, a Swedish specialty which is basically a small herring fermented under controlled circumstances. It is one of the most stinky foods in the world and cannot be eaten indoors. A Swedish colleague brought me a tin from Stockholm, and I set up my sensory experience on my back terrace:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_19.jpg\" alt=\"R000517\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_20<\/strong><br \/>\nI opened the tin and contemplated the slime and the stench:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/38_20.jpg\" alt=\"R000519\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>38_21<\/strong><br \/>\nReady to eat, served on a special crispbread on top of boiled potatos, and topped with red onion.
