Because I needed to travel light, the only camera I had with me was a Ricoh GR Digital which fits in the pocket. Sometimes it is a good exercise to have to live within the limitations of a fixed lens (equivalent to 28mm) and the inherent graininess\/noise you get with a small sensor at high ISO speeds. But as usual, I tried to make the best of whatever picture opportunities presented themselves as I was moving around the city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main<\/strong><br \/>\nEmerging from the Tube at Picadilly:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24.jpg\" alt=\"11208\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nThe alternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nHanging out at Picadilly:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt1.jpg\" alt=\"11219\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nOn the Tube escalator. With this picture, I decided to leave the camera at ISO 100 and see if I could get some interesting motion images:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt2.jpg\" alt=\"11283\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nTube musician. She played quite well, actually. I have no idea if it was a coincidence that she placed herself directly in front of this poster:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt3.jpg\" alt=\"11290\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nAnother Tube scene, at Notting Hill station:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt4.jpg\" alt=\"11295\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nThe pose most people adopt on the Tube can be described as &#8220;alone in a crowd&#8221;:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt5.jpg\" alt=\"11297\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nAfternoon&#8211;a couple walking home after work:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt6.jpg\" alt=\"11237\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nEvening&#8211;Chandos Pub near Trafalgar Square, one of my favourite watering holes in London since I &#8220;discovered&#8221; it earlier this year:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt7.jpg\" alt=\"11254\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nTrafalgar Square, it just started raining:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt8.jpg\" alt=\"11273\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nMorning, getting ready for the day&#8217;s business, Sicilian Avenue:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt9.jpg\" alt=\"11277\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 10<\/em><br \/>\nAn old London tradition, as shown here on Southampton Row. Not many people use the phone booths these days, but they serve as advertising venues for enterprising girls:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/24alt10.jpg\" alt=\"11278\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 11<\/em><br \/>\nAnother sign of the many Polish people who have moved to London since 2004.
