Right now, in June, the sun rises around 5 a.m. and sets around 10 p.m. So there is plenty of light for a photographer. One of my favourite things to do on a weekend morning is to take my motorcycle and go for a ride. Everything is peaceful, there is no traffic, the light is beautiful. And so this past Saturday I rode to Amsterdam around 7 a.m. to take a walk in the Vondelpark and the surrounding streets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main<\/strong><br \/>\nAs I said, the morning light is beautiful:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22.jpg\" alt=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nThe alternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nThe main entrance to the Vondelpark, a wonderful oasis in the middle of the city:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt1.jpg\" alt=\"1597\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nInside the park, a few people could be seen jogging or just enjoying the morning sun:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt2.jpg\" alt=\"1622\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nOthers were apparently still recovering from Friday night. I subscribe to the Kyle Cassidy commandment that one should not photograph sleeping homeless people. But this guy is clearly not homeless. Homeless people do not wear football jerseys costing 60 Euros, and they most certainly do not waste their money on bottled water:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt3.jpg\" alt=\"1600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nI continued to walk around, exploring the light:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt4.jpg\" alt=\"1615\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nFinally, I left the Vondelpark and walked a bit in the nearby streets. By now it was close to 9 a.m., so the people who had not partied on Friday night were beginning to emerge:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt5.jpg\" alt=\"1639\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nThis boat had probably hosted a party the night before:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt6.jpg\" alt=\"1649\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nI then looked down to see what I could find. Here is some bent metal:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt7.jpg\" alt=\"1648\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nPeople throw all kind of things into the canals&#8211;or is this a remainder from a bicycle accident?<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt8.jpg\" alt=\"1652\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nAnd finally, evidently Pippi Longstocking lost her hair on Friday night:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/22alt9.jpg\" alt=\"1650\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of pleasures of the summer is that the days are long here in Northern Europe.
