The World Cup came to an end without me watching any of the games&#8211;I had no interest in looking at Trump&#8217;s shitshow. But of course I realise that I was in a tiny minority, especially here in Spain, a country whose national team ended up winning the whole thing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>29_1<\/strong><br \/>\nI start with a couple of morning beach walks:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_1.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4950\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_2<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_2.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4954\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_3<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_3.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4963\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_4<\/strong><br \/>\nAs I said, I boycotted the World Cup but of course I looked for its signs in the neighbourhood:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_4.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4952\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_5<\/strong><br \/>\nIn Spain, when an important game is on, the normal way to watch it is with friends in a bar, not at home. Here, people are getting ready for the Spain-France semifinal at my local bar The Place:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_5.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4955\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_6<\/strong><br \/>\nA couple of days later, I walked to The Place again, with Mochi. If he has not pooped during the 500 or meters from my house to the bar, I take him across the street to make sure he relieves himself before we go for our beer:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_6.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4957\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_7<\/strong><br \/>\nI am by no means the only person with a dog at The Place:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_7.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4971\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_8<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_8.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4975\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_9<\/strong><br \/>\nBut my Mochi is the prettiest dog of them all:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_9.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4974\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_10<\/strong><br \/>\nClose to our 1970s house there is a new neighbourhood called PAU5 with expensive apartments, and new ones still going up:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_10.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4968\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_11<\/strong><br \/>\nA beautiful object seen during a walk:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_11.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4967\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_12<\/strong><br \/>\nAbout 100 m from my house there is a small square named after the Swedish prime minister Olof Palme, assassinated in 1986. It is just a tiny park with a playground in the centre. One morning I saw a couple sleeping there. I guess this is a way to visit Alicante on the cheap:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_12.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4979\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_13<\/strong><br \/>\nA bit further down the street, a small restaurant boasts of its linguistic skills:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_13.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4993\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_14<\/strong><br \/>\nSaturday afternoon I went to see an exhibition of paintings by a local artist called Pamblanco. They were nice and colourful but frankly speaking, I was not that impressed:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_14.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4981\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_15<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_15.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4982\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_16<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_16.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4988\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_17<\/strong><br \/>\nNo week is complete without cats:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_17.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4994\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_18<\/strong><br \/>\nI&#8217;m not sharing:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_18.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4966\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_19<\/strong><br \/>\nSunday afternoon, a local bar getting ready for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_19.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4992\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>29_20<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are many Argentines living here, so this is probably a case of split loyalties, or maybe hedging his bets:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/29_20.jpg\" alt=\"DSF4995\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nothing special this week.
