Early in the week I hosted a visit of 4 people from the OECD at the office. In mid-week we had strong wind which combined with a high tide made for some spectacular sea views. And still later in the week we said goodbye to a dear colleague who is taking up a post in the EU representation in Bangkok.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4_1<\/strong><br \/>\nAn amusing scene during a morning walk with Mochi (the photo is somewhat unsharp but I find it sufficiently amusing to include here):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_1.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3335\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_2<\/strong><br \/>\nAnother early morning seascape:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_2.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3338\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_3<\/strong><br \/>\nOn Tuesday morning our colleagues from the OECD arrived, and we sat down in a meeting room for a full working day together, basically planning our joint work in the coming year:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_3.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3348\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_4<\/strong><br \/>\nOur four guests from Paris reflected the international staff of the OECD&#8211;Leonor from Chile, Camila from Colombia, Noga from Israel and Piotr from Poland. The big photo in the background is Warsaw&#8217;s old centre. Most of our meeting rooms are named after capitals of EU member states, and we were meeting in the Warsaw Room:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_4.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3346\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_5<\/strong><br \/>\nIn the evening we took our visitors for dinner at the Teselas restaurant on the Esplanada:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_5.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3354\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_6<\/strong><br \/>\nNoga:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_6.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3352\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_7<\/strong><br \/>\nLeonor:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_7.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3357\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_8<\/strong><br \/>\nA bit of food porn. One of my favourite dishes at Teselas is the <em>steak tartare<\/em>:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_8.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3355\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_9<\/strong><br \/>\nWe have had some very windy days recently. On Wednesday those winds were combined with an extremely high tide, leading to rather spectacular views of the shore on my way home from work:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_9.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3364\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_10<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_10.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3371\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_11<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_11.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3373\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_12<\/strong><br \/>\nOur own beach, Playa Muchavista, was a mess:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_12.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3380\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_13<\/strong><br \/>\nBut the surfers had a good time:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_13.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3381\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_14<\/strong><br \/>\nOn Thursday we had a drink in my former department at work to say good bye to Claire, a dear colleague who is leaving us for a great adventure. From February 1st she will be working on intellectual property matters at the EU representation in Thailand. So we got together to give her a nice send-off:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_14.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3387\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_15<\/strong><br \/>\nThe director of the Observatory department was away for medical reasons, so it fell to me to give a short speech. Afterwards, Eri (who has been working closely with Claire for the past several years) gave the various gifts to Claire:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_15.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3396\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_16<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_16.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3398\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_17<\/strong><br \/>\nFunny face:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_17.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3402\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_18<\/strong><br \/>\nClaire is very well-liked, so the card that we all signed had to be large to accommodate everyone:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_18.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3404\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_19<\/strong><br \/>\nThe gifts have been given, and a hug ends that part of the proceedings:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_19.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3409\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_20<\/strong><br \/>\nAfterwards, we had a <em>picoteo<\/em> in the kitchen where we used to have the &#8220;last Friday of the month&#8221; drinks. There are often interesting exhibitions there. This time it was an exhibition of photographs documenting traditional occupations in Alicante, such as fishing, weaving and so on:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_24.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3421\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_25<\/strong><br \/>\nPointing out a poem to his granddaughter:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_25.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3424\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_26<\/strong><br \/>\nA wall painting depicting one of Alicante&#8217;s most important traditions:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_26.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3423\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_27<\/strong><br \/>\nOn Saturday morning the cleanup of the beach after the storm was about to start:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_27.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3426\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_28<\/strong><br \/>\nSeascapes come in many shapes:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2026\/4_28.jpg\" alt=\"DSF3428\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4_29<\/strong><br \/>\nLater on Saturday, I cycled to Agost, as I do every weekend. The town is 25 km from my house.
