Photokina is probably the most important photo equipment show in the world. It happens every two years. I go there to drool over new equipment, to visit the beautiful city of Cologne, and to meet up with my photo friends from all over the world. Such as Liz, who now lives in Manchester, but whom I know from my time in Brussels in the 1990s:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/40.jpg\" alt=\"7079\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Canon 1D Mark II, 35mm L Canon, ISO 800)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Or Tuulikki, originally from Finland, but now married to a Swedish guy (and my favourite Leica guru, Tom Abrahamsson) and living in Vancouver:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/40alt1.jpg\" alt=\"7127\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Canon 1D Mark II, 16-35mm L Canon, ISO 400)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Photokina also offers the opportunity to see new, er, faces:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/40alt2.jpg\" alt=\"7066\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Canon 1D Mark II, 135mm L Canon, ISO 400)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/40alt3.jpg\" alt=\"7049\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Canon 1D Mark II, 135mm L Canon, ISO 400)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then there is the equipment&#8230;this new 4\/1700mm lens from Carl Zeiss weighs 256 kg. I suspect that it will be photographed more than sold. It is a nice change from the ultra-modernity of the trade show to a place where people look for equipment that is several decades old, and sometimes dress accordingly:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/40alt6.jpg\" alt=\"7131\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Canon 1D Mark II, 16-35mm L Canon, ISO 400)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Finally, a couple of pictures of Cologne itself.
