It was a week during which I enjoyed the early morning light on several occasions, usually with our doggie Mochi. I was also out and about at night a couple of times, and in mid-week I attended a very inspiring presentation at the office, about her grassroots work in Zambia by a recently retired colleague.<\/p>\n

\nOn Sunday morning I accompanied my daughter on the dog’s morning walk:

\nOur house is from the 1970s, as are the majority of the houses on our street, forming almost a small village on the border between the municipalities of El Campello and Alicante. But just a couple of hundred meters inside Alicante, a large new residential area called PAU5 has sprung up in recent years, full of large apartment buildings, shops and restaurants. We walked through that area to get to a nearby park, and I took in a bit of the architecture:

\nWhen we entered the park, I was delighted to see that the pet memorial tree had been re-established (the original tree was cut down in 2020):

\nA small square down the street, named after the late Swedish prime minister Olof Palme. Mochi is interested in the two dogs being walked by the man in the square:

\nI also had the opportunity to visit our beach at night a couple of evenings:

\nI also went out for dinner in the centre one evening, and stopped by this coloured fountain on the Esplanada:

\nAt our office we have a monthly “lunchtime talk” where a member of staff gets to present a subject that she or he cares about (I made a presentation on Ted Grant’s photography a couple of years ago). This time it was Christine, retired last year,who spoke about a community project in Zambia that she is involved with. She is going to spend 3 months in a village there later this year. She gave us some overall information about Zambia and presented the projects with which she is involved:

\nI continued my habit of walking Mochi around sunrise. Quite often, I see people meditating at the water’s edge:

\nI always look for different ways to take in the early morning light. This is the street leading from my house to the beach, about 500 meters:

\nI finish with Mochi. Monica took him for a grooming session. All that fur requires periodic care:
