So this week I was invited by my previous department (who continue to include me in their social events) for an after-work drink at a local wine bar to say goodbye to two of their remaining trainees, Laura and Nina.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35_1<\/strong><br \/>\nBut first a couple of morning pictures from my pre-work bike rides. With sunrise around 7:45 am at this time of year, I see sunrise almost every morning. Here the low sun behind the old guard tower (built to warn against pirates in the 17th century) in El Campello:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_1.jpg\" alt=\"1040387\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_2<\/strong><br \/>\nAnother morning, the sun was hiding behind the clouds:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_2.jpg\" alt=\"1040394\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_3<\/strong><br \/>\nWe also had the occasional (very occasional!) rainy day. This was the view from my office:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_3.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1470\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_4<\/strong><br \/>\nThen it was time for our sendoff for Laura and Nina:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_4.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1494\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_5<\/strong><br \/>\nZiga and Laura:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_5.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1472\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_6<\/strong><br \/>\nProof that I don&#8217;t just focus on the women, a portrait of Antoine:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_6.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1476\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_7<\/strong><br \/>\nLivia, a colleague from Romania:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_7.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1478\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_8<\/strong><br \/>\nClaire, sharing a laugh with Laura. Two lovely French ladies:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_8.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1483\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_9<\/strong><br \/>\nThen it was time to give the parting gifts to Laura and Nina:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_9.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1506\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_10<\/strong><br \/>\nNina:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_10.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1508\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_11<\/strong><br \/>\nAnd one of the ladies in the administration of the department, Ludmila, came buy with her adorable little girl:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_11.jpg\" alt=\"DSF1486\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_12<\/strong><br \/>\nOn Saturday, I stopped by the fishing harbour in El Campello. It was late morning, so all the boats were in the harbour, and the work had been done:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_12.jpg\" alt=\"1040398\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_13<\/strong><br \/>\nI always enjoy looking at the details of the boats:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_13.jpg\" alt=\"1040399\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_14<\/strong><br \/>\nNext to the fishing harbour is the much bigger leisure boat harbour. But in contrast to Alicante, the boats here are much more modest. No oligarch yachts here:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_14.jpg\" alt=\"1040396\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_15<\/strong><br \/>\nOn Sunday morning, I cycled to Verdeg\u00c3\u00a1s, stopping for a brief rest outside the small church. The Sunday Mass was in progress. Out of respect for the service, I did not go inside the church to look, I just took a picture from the bench outside on which I was resting:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_15.jpg\" alt=\"1040408\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_16<\/strong><br \/>\nThe cats living next to the church show no respect whatsoever:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_16.jpg\" alt=\"1040406\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>35_17<\/strong><br \/>\nI finished the week with a beer at 100 Montaditos on the beach, taking in the other users of the promenade, two and four-legged:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2024\/35_17.jpg\" alt=\"1040414\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The year of the current crop of trainees at our office ended in mid-September, with many of them leaving early to take up other opportunities.
