I attended a conference in Edinburgh, which provided an opportunity for my first-ever visit to Scotland. But I start with a few pictures from my daily life in Alicante. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Main<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Embalse de Amadorio reservoir provides a big part of our drinking water. This picture was taken with an IR filter to accentuate the sky:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/24.jpg\" alt=\"L1001700\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nAlternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nA local bar offers free beer when Germany wins&#8211;but only in German&#8230;Hmmm&#8211;discrimination?:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/24alt1.jpg\" alt=\"_1010642\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nMy son is home for the summer vacation. We went for lunch at la Cervezer\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00ada, a tapas place with beer taps at each table. You drink until you have had enough, and then you pay \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u20ac\u0161\u00c2\u00ac5 per litre:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/24alt2.jpg\" alt=\"L1001732\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nBus stop in El Campello. Clearly, whoever did this should have used public transport or a taxi instead of driving:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/24alt3.jpg\" alt=\"L1001717\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The rest of this week&#8217;s pictures are from Scotland. There is also a more complete gallery <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frozenlight.eu\/scotland2010\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.frozenlight.eu\/scotland2010\/', 'here']);\" >here<\/a>, but please look below first.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nScottish bars are indeed well-stocked:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/24alt4.jpg\" alt=\"L1001766\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nThere is not much to do on Edinburgh&#8217;s Royal Mile besides shopping and drinking:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/24alt5.jpg\" alt=\"L1001809\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nSomewhat more posh, the art museum in Edinburgh can be rented as a dinner venue. The food was as nice as the surroundings:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/24alt6.jpg\" alt=\"L1001820\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nThe Scottish Parliament building. I think this is the only place in the UK I have ever seen the EU flag outside a public building:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/24alt7.jpg\" alt=\"L1001874\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nI then moved on to Glasgow, a city I found much more interesting than Edinburgh.
