I was observing the couple with baby at the neighbouring table. A very typical scene; a passing friend stops to admire the baby:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23.jpg\" alt=\"L1001663\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nAlternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nA few minutes later, the baby had a whole flock of admirers:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt1.jpg\" alt=\"L1001668\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nLooking in another direction, older children out and about on their own&#8211;another common sight around here:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt2.jpg\" alt=\"L1001666\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then on Monday afternoon I went to Munich for an all-day meeting on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nIn the evening, we went for dinner near Marienplatz, the central square of the old city:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt3.jpg\" alt=\"_1010577\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nTuesday morning, a man readies his bar for the World Cup, starting the following weekend:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt4.jpg\" alt=\"_1010581\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nA pissoir in a beer garden, also ready for the World Cup:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt5.jpg\" alt=\"_1010593\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nTuesday evening several of us went for dinner. Our guide was as lost as the rest of us:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt6.jpg\" alt=\"_1010591\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nWe ended up in a Biergarten on Viktualienmarkt:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt7.jpg\" alt=\"_1010594\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nOur waitress brings what is considered small beer in Munich:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt8.jpg\" alt=\"_1010599\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nTypical Munich food&#8211;no nouvelle cuisine here, thank you:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/23alt9.jpg\" alt=\"_1010600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 10<\/em><br \/>\nWednesday morning, just before heading for the airport, I went for a short walk in the centre.
