This is the kind of screen every traveller likes to see:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20.jpg\" alt=\"_1000958\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nAlternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nOnce landed in Boston Friday afternoon, we checked into our hotel, freshened up a bit and set out for a walk. The business district was pretty dead at 6 p.m., but there was this bit of urban fauna:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt1.jpg\" alt=\"_1000976\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nLooking curiously at me:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt2.jpg\" alt=\"_1000977\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nBut in the end, the garbage is more interesting:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt3.jpg\" alt=\"_1000978\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nThe target of our walk was the famous Union Oyster restaurant, supposedly the oldest in the US. The place was crowded, so we had to wait in the bar for a table. The ambiance was better than the food:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt4.jpg\" alt=\"_1000986\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nSaturday was basically a day off. I went out on my own to explore Cambridge. I started by taking the T to Harvard Square and took a walk around the Harvard campus, meeting this cheerful se\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00b1orita in the process:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt5.jpg\" alt=\"_1000999\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nMy breakfast consisted of a salmon\/wasabi bagel on Harvard Square. A nice combination:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt6.jpg\" alt=\"_1010007\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nA small visitor to my table:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt7.jpg\" alt=\"_1010009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I continued my walk around Cambridge, looking at amusing signs and street details.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nThis is actually a side door of a church:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt8.jpg\" alt=\"_1010017\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nA Cambridge street:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt9.jpg\" alt=\"_1010029\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 10<\/em><br \/>\nAn ebay deal gone sour:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt10.jpg\" alt=\"_1010033\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 11<\/em><br \/>\nBack on the Boston side:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt11.jpg\" alt=\"_1010066\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 12<\/em><br \/>\nMy daughter had given me a long shopping list of various vegan foods, and so I went to this Whole Foods Market to look for them. On the way in, I was amused by this scene:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt12.jpg\" alt=\"_1010068\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 13<\/em><br \/>\nOn the way back to the hotel I ran into a rally for transgender rights outside Boston Common:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt13.jpg\" alt=\"_1010075\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 14<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt14.jpg\" alt=\"_1010081\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 15<\/em><br \/>\nNot just young and pretty people, either:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2010\/20alt15.jpg\" alt=\"_1010084\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 16<\/em><br \/>\nOn Saturday evening, the first working engagement, a reception at the federal courthouse offered by a California intellectual property law firm.
