A week during which most of my photos were made while out cycling or strolling in the centre of Alicante.<\/p>\n

\nI started with a weekend ride to Villajoyosa, stopping at the wonderful beach Playa Bol Nou just south of the town:

\nLater, I took a short break near the harbour and watched the traffic on the water a bit:

\nI usually leave for my morning rides around 7:30, a bit later on weekends. At this time of the year this is when the sun rises in Alicante, so I get to see some lovely morning light. Sometimes, right in my garden:

\nOn August 16th, we were going to Warsaw for a few days, and I wanted to travel as light as possible. At the same time I wanted to take my Olympus OM4T camera in addition to a digital camera, so I chose the Panasonic GX80 for digital, the lightest and smallest of my “serious” cameras. While getting the outfit together, I discovered the small flash that came with the GX80 at the bottom of my camera bag. I don’t think I have ever used it, but when my daughter came into my room, I decided to try it. It works OK, apparently (although this does not mean that I plan to use flash more than once or twice every decade):

\nOn Friday, I stopped in the centre on my way home from work. I started with a beer at my favourite bar, Malatesta:

\nMiraculously, one of the outside tables was free, so I was able to enjoy my Tripel Karmeliet while watching the street traffic:

\nThe neighbouring table. A nice vignette of life in modern Spain. A young father is out with his small child and enjoys a drink with friends:

\nEven the pigeons seem to want to go to Malatesta:

\nDuring Saturday morning’s bike ride I stopped in the village of Verdeg\u00c3\u00a1s. This is the season for local fiestas, and one was being set up here:

\nI am always amused by the grandly named “centro social” of Verdeg\u00c3\u00a1s, basically just the public toilet of the square:

\nVarious two-wheeled vehicles, lined up nicely:

\nOn Sunday morning, I took my standard Aigues-Busot ride. In Aigues, I always enjoy the door of this artsy house:

\nThen on to Busot, where someone is (slowly) building what looks like a pretty nice house in the lovely landscape:

\nAcross the street from the church, a tiny outdoor market:

\nI rarely see anybody shopping, but I find the installation visually amusing:

\nAccording to the met office, southern Europe has had worst drought in hundreds of years. And it is true that I do not remember when we last had rain–perhaps in May. Outside Busot there is a reservoir, clearly showing the dire state of affairs:
