I made it up to this point on Sunday. The road begins at sea level (the hotels in the distance are just about visible), so I have been going uphill for 5 km:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/49.jpg\" alt=\"L1000914\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The entire ride where the above picture was taken is <a href=\"http:\/\/connect.garmin.com\/activity\/20234250\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/connect.garmin.com\/activity\/20234250', 'here']);\" >here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nAlternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nOn the beach next to the harbour in El Campello, people gather to play p\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a9tanque almost every day:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/49alt1.jpg\" alt=\"L1000900\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nA big part of any p\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a9tanque match&#8211;the shot has been made and it has to be determined whose ball is closest to the <em>cochonnet<\/em>, the little ball that everyone aims at:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/49alt2.jpg\" alt=\"L1000902\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nThis picture is technically deficient, but I still include it because it depicts such a universal scene, a little boy who needs to pee and is too shy to go into one of the beach-side bars to use the toilet (a common practice here in Spain):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/49alt3.jpg\" alt=\"L1000903\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nA se\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00b1orita walks by while I take a break on a bench on Playa San Juan:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/49alt4.jpg\" alt=\"L1000926\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nTwo men chatting in the harbour of El Campello, with one of the cats who live there joining in the conversation:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/49alt5.jpg\" alt=\"L1000933\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nThe cats living in the fishing harbour are not really homeless. The harbour is their home. They have places to shelter when the weather is bad, and are fed cat food and fresh fish by the people who come to the harbour to stroll and fish.
