The weather was horrible, but at least there were some places to shelter, like \u00c3\u0192\u00cb\u0153sterport train station:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44.jpg\" alt=\"L1008558\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nAlternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nOutside the station, election posters were everywhere. Denmark has municipal elections later in November, and the campaign is in full swing. One of the more entertaining parties is called the Nihilist People&#8217;s Party, started by some quite articulate young people as a protest against &#8220;politics as usual&#8221;. Their slogan on this poster is &#8220;No to church bells&#8211;fuck your salvation&#8211;we have a hangover&#8221;:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt1.jpg\" alt=\"L1008555\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nI love Copenhagen, but this particular Monday the weather was certainly not inviting:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt2.jpg\" alt=\"L1008568\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nSharing an umbrella, Str\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00b8get:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt3.jpg\" alt=\"L1008572\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nThe city looked a lot better from inside a caf\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a9:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt4.jpg\" alt=\"L1008567\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nOne small detail from the cemetery where my mother is buried. A path has been refurbished, and the four builders who worked on it decided to leave behind a durable record. So on this cobblestone there is an inscription which says &#8220;Work performed by Claus, Brian, Mohammed and Ren\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a9&#8221;:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt5.jpg\" alt=\"L1008562\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nOutside Copenhagen&#8217;s main train station, a couple is seeking shelter from the rain, and trying to keep warm:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt6.jpg\" alt=\"L1008583\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday morning I flew home to Alicante, and Tuesday afternoon I went for my usual bicycle ride along the beach.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nA fishing boat arriving in El Campello harbour, illuminated by the setting sun and with hungry seagulls in close pursuit:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt7.jpg\" alt=\"P1000713\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nThe boat has landed and the catch must be unloaded quickly:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt8.jpg\" alt=\"P1000727\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nThis is fresh fish indeed:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt9.jpg\" alt=\"P1000733\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 10<\/em><br \/>\nOld-timers stand around and comment on the quality of the catch:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt10.jpg\" alt=\"P1000737\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 11<\/em><br \/>\nSame bicycle ride, but now Wednesday afternoon. The weather was unusually clear, this is the view from Playa Muchavista about an hour before sunset:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt11.jpg\" alt=\"P1000738\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 12<\/em><br \/>\nAnd the sunset as seen from El Campello harbour:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt12.jpg\" alt=\"P1000743\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The remaining pictures are from Saturday.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 13<\/em><br \/>\nIn the morning we went to the Mercado Central to buy vegetables and to show the place to a visiting friend from England:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt13.jpg\" alt=\"L1008601\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 14<\/em><br \/>\nA tiny dog like this is best carried in the crowd:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt14.jpg\" alt=\"L1008605\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 15<\/em><br \/>\nA vegetable vendor takes a sip of water before starting her turn at work:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt15.jpg\" alt=\"L1008606\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the evening we went to a wine tasting in a shop in El Campello. The formula is simple: you pay \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u20ac\u0161\u00c2\u00ac5 to get in and they have a number of bottles open for tasting. Clearly, Northern European tourists have not yet discovered this place&#8211;fortunately, as it would surely put an end to the tastings at this price!<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 16<\/em><br \/>\nSmokers take a brake outside the shop:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt16.jpg\" alt=\"L1008621\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 17<\/em><br \/>\nInside the shop there is some serious wine in the cellar. Sadly, those are not the bottles we got to try:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/44alt17.jpg\" alt=\"L1008616\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 18<\/em><br \/>\nAfter the wine tasting I went for a pint and a bit of football at a nearby English bar. It is the kind of place where passers-by stick their head through the door and have a chat with those inside.
