By happy coincidence, one of the traditional agriculture protests was taking place in Brussels that day. French and Belgian farmers in particular always look for handouts from Brussels. I believe that this action was about wanting a higher guaranteed price for milk:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/40alt4.jpg\" alt=\"L1007969\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\n&#8220;No food without agriculture&#8221;&#8211;true enough, but why should farmers get taxpayers&#8217; money?:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/40alt5.jpg\" alt=\"L1007961\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nMilk in the gutter:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/40alt6.jpg\" alt=\"L1007972\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nAfter the meeting, we went for a drink at a colleague&#8217;s house in Ixelles:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/40alt7.jpg\" alt=\"L1007976\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nTypical Brussels house from the early part of the 20th century:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/40alt8.jpg\" alt=\"L1007975\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nIn the evening, I wanted to go for a walk near the hotel, but this is what the place looked like:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/40alt9.jpg\" alt=\"L1007987\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At 6:05 Tuesday morning (!) I flew back to Alicante and life returned to normal.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 10<\/em><br \/>\nHere are &#8220;our&#8221; homeless cats on the golf course.
