The first five were taken while walking my dog in the neighbourhood in Playa San Juan where I live. The rest were taken in the centre of Alicante, mostly on Friday afternoon when I offered to take my wife and daughter shopping in a fit of madness; but I was not mad enough to actually enter the department store, preferring instead to hang around outside and observe the human traffic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main<\/strong><br \/>\nFather and son enjoy photography together:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29.jpg\" alt=\"L1006211\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nThe alternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nTwo generations of women, Avenida Vicente Ramos:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt1.jpg\" alt=\"L1006212\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nEvening at El Sitio:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt2.jpg\" alt=\"L1006213\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nFather cycles with his daughter, Avenida Vicente Ramos:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt3.jpg\" alt=\"L1006231\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nChanging gears requires further explanation:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt4.jpg\" alt=\"L1006232\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nEvery Sunday there is a small Belgian-style <em>brocante<\/em> (antiques market) outside the Alicante city hall. I sometimes go to look at the buyers and sellers. It is apparent that for many of them, this market is a social occasion more than a place to buy and sell. Here, these two gentlemen were engaged in some intense discussion. While this gesture looks hostile, there was no hostility in evidence:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt5.jpg\" alt=\"L1006205\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nThe main seaside street in the centre, Esplanada de Espa\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00b1a, is one big bazaar during the tourist season (also the rest of the year, but to a lesser extent):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt6.jpg\" alt=\"L1006209\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nIn a small park near the main shopping street a man blows giant soap bubbles to entertain the children. As far as I could tell, he was not asking for money:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt7.jpg\" alt=\"L1006219\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nHaving a smoke outside El Corte Ingl\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a9s, the largest department store in Alicante. My wife and daughter spent about 2 hours inside; I stayed outside, only venturing inside for a minute or two when I got too hot:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt8.jpg\" alt=\"L1006223\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nLottery vendor outside El Corte Ingl\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a9s:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt9.jpg\" alt=\"L1006227\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 10<\/em><br \/>\nLooking:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2009\/29alt10.jpg\" alt=\"L1006229\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 11<\/em><br \/>\nNapping. There are sellers of these sticks everywhere. I have no idea what they are called but one day I asked one of the vendors what they are for.
