A quiet week of work and cycling.<\/p>\n

\nOn Tuesday we had our monthly department meeting, followed by a drink at Moments, the restaurant on the beach. The occasion was to mark the beginning of the summer before people started drifting off on holiday. Stephanie and Tamara:

\nOn Wednesday and Thursday we had an intensive training in moderating panels. The instructor was Claire Doole, who used to work for the BBC (while speaking with her during a break, I realised that I used to listen to her on BBC World Service when I lived in Belgium in the late 1990s) and now has her communications and training company. It was very much hands-on, involving recording us in action, followed by analysis by Claire. Here, I am the victim:

\nInevitably, seeing oneself on the screen results in occasional bouts of laughter:

\nOn Thursday we had a fire alarm–not a drill, but the real thing. We evacuated the building and waited for the all clear. It turned out that the alarm was caused by some workers whipping up some white powder\/dust in the course of their work inside the building, which confused the smoke detectors:

\nFriday was a rare cloudy day in Alicante, providing for some nice morning views from the office terrace:

\nOn Saturday I had an errand near the Mercado Central, and I took the opportunity to walk through the market, something I always enjoy. So I finish the weekly blog with four images from there. First, the butcher:
