Since St. Nicolas is the patron saint of Alicante, there were processions by the various guilds that participate in the local Moros y Cristianos festivals all over town. I happened upon the biggest of them when passing by the town hall in mid-day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main<\/strong><br \/>\nThe saint is carried in front of the town hall:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50.jpg\" alt=\"C065536\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nThe alternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nHe is heavy:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt1.jpg\" alt=\"C065538\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nThis little girl was taking her participation very seriously:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt2.jpg\" alt=\"C065535\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nThe street behind the town hall:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt3.jpg\" alt=\"C065530\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nEither they are done or they are waiting their turn, I never found out:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt4.jpg\" alt=\"C065529\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nIt all finished with very noisy fireworks. One can question the wisdom of fireworks in mid-day, but it is quite common here:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt5.jpg\" alt=\"C065531\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday morning I had to drop off my daughter at a theme park in Benidorm, Terra Mitica. Afterwards, I went for a walk along the beach.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nToo cold for anyone to use the beach chairs today. However, they are not put away completely, because they might be needed again any time:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt6.jpg\" alt=\"C075547\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nOn a morning during the off-season, the beach belongs to senior citizens:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt7.jpg\" alt=\"C075543\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nThe foundation of Benidorm&#8217;s economy:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt8.jpg\" alt=\"C075554\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nThe beachfront promenade in Benidorm is like one big community centre. Here the events of the day are being discussed:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2008\/50alt9.jpg\" alt=\"C075551\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Because of constitution day falling on a Saturday, we all had Monday off. My wife took our daughter for some kind of hair treatment in Alicante&#8217;s mini-Chinatown.
