Roberto is a master rice (paella) cook, and we spent a pleasant afternoon watching him cook and then eating. There was also a wine tasting at the office and the usual walking and cycling pictures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39_1<\/strong><br \/>\nThe process of making the rice begins with browning of the meat (chicken and rabbit):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_1.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2465\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_2<\/strong><br \/>\nVegetables are added:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_2.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2469\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_3<\/strong><br \/>\nRoberto and Mariluz have a couple of cats. This one was a keen observer. I caught her showing me her tongue:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_3.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2475\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_4<\/strong><br \/>\nGetting a scrap or two:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_4.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2485\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_5<\/strong><br \/>\nBeing her majestic self:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_5.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2498\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_6<\/strong><br \/>\nMeanwhile, the rest of us were munching and talking:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_6.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2471\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_7<\/strong><br \/>\nRoberto adds the rice to the meat and veggies:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_7.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2478\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_8<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_8.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2477\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_9<\/strong><br \/>\nA critical milestone in the preparation of a rice; the <em>caldo<\/em> (broth) is added:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_9.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2479\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_10<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_10.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_11<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_11.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2489\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_12<\/strong><br \/>\nRoberto and Mariluz taste the broth and confer:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_12.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2493\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_13<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_13.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2492\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_14<\/strong><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s ready!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_14.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2503\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_15<\/strong><br \/>\nIt tastes as good as it looks:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_15.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2505\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_16<\/strong><br \/>\nMariluz doles out the goodies:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_16.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2507\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_17<\/strong><br \/>\nMariluz and Roberto live in a hilly area outside Benidorm. After the rice, we went for a walk:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_17.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2513\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_18<\/strong><br \/>\nLooking one way, the sea:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_18.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2514\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_19<\/strong><br \/>\nLooking the other way, the hills:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_19.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2512\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_20<\/strong><br \/>\nTo get back to the paved road we had to scramble up a grassy and rather steep hillside. Elio struggled a bit in his flip-flops but he made it:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_20.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2521\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_21<\/strong><br \/>\nNereyda arrives at the top:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_21.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2523\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_22<\/strong><br \/>\nMariluz arrives too:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_22.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2524\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, it was time to go home. Monday morning loomed, and besides, I wanted to watch the Buffalo Bills game at 7 p.m., on the NFL network.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39_23<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen I walk around downtown Alicante, I always look up. I really like the various shop and bar signs, some old-school, some fanciful:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_23.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2525\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_24<\/strong><br \/>\nA bar:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_24.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2526\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_25<\/strong><br \/>\nA cheap hotel:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_25.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2527\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_26<\/strong><br \/>\nBack to my neighbourhood and my golf course cats. This one is getting braver, and now waits for me on my side of the fence:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_26.jpg\" alt=\"R000252\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_27<\/strong><br \/>\nOn Thursday evening, we had the monthly wine tasting at the office. This was the overall setting, this time on our outside terrace:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_27.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2528\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_28<\/strong><br \/>\nThe presenter was from a company called Nuevos Vinos, which has its own bodegas but also markets the products of other wine makers. He was very knowledgeable:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_28.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2529\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_29<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_29.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2530\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_30<\/strong><br \/>\nServing the next round. The format is always the same; a wine is served, the presenter talks about it, and then we taste it. This time it was two whites and three reds:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_30.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2532\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_31<\/strong><br \/>\nThis was my favourite of the reds, but I will not be buying any because at \u00e2\u201a\u00ac18 it is too expensive for what it is:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_31.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2545\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_32<\/strong><br \/>\nWine glasses and bokeh:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_32.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2547\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_33<\/strong><br \/>\nAs usual, I cycled every day after work, which meant that I saw some pretty sunsets:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_33.jpg\" alt=\"R000254\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_34<\/strong><br \/>\nOn Saturday I cycled to Jijona via Busot. On the way, I stopped to pee, eat a banana, and take a picture. Or rather, I took 8 pictures of this curve in the road (which I had just climbed) and stitched them together in Lightroom to create a 180-degree panoramic image:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_34.jpg\" alt=\"R000255pano\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_35<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is usually how I find Cheeta when I return from my bike rides. As a guard dog, she is pretty much retired:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_35.jpg\" alt=\"R000266\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Saturday evening I went to El Campello to watch the Arsenal-Chelsea match in an English bar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39_36<\/strong><br \/>\nSmoking indoors is banned in Spain, so a smoke break means going outside:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2016\/39_36.jpg\" alt=\"DSF2553\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>39_37<\/strong><br \/>\nDuring half time, I took a brief walk along the beach. There were a few people out and about.
