So most of my pictures are from around the city, and from the surrounding countryside, the latter taken while cycling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36_1<\/strong><br \/>\nThe top of the Esplanada de Espa\u00c3\u00b1a, Alicante&#8217;s main pedestrian street along the waterfront, with the ubiquitous lottery vendor:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_1.jpg\" alt=\"L1011525\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_2<\/strong><br \/>\nBlue tree near Aig\u00c3\u00bces in morning light. To avoid the afternoon heat, I have been cycling before work during the past couple of weeks:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_2.jpg\" alt=\"R000165\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_3<\/strong><br \/>\nThe plaza in Aig\u00c3\u00bces, still decked out for fiesta:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_3.jpg\" alt=\"_1010990\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_4<\/strong><br \/>\nThe drought just keeps its grip on our part of Spain, and the reservoirs keep getting lower:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_4.jpg\" alt=\"_1010995\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_5<\/strong><br \/>\nSo, to conserve water, I went to El Rinc\u00c3\u00b3n de Cerveza in Elche to stock up on quality beer:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_5.jpg\" alt=\"R000169\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_6<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_6.jpg\" alt=\"R000172\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_7<\/strong><br \/>\nTagliatella, a pizzeria in our neighbourhood. Their stuff is excellent, fresh and light, with quality ingredients. It is both a sit-down and takeout restaurant:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_7.jpg\" alt=\"R000173\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_8<\/strong><br \/>\nAnother neighbourhood picture. Dog communication outside the Mercadona supermarket:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_8.jpg\" alt=\"R000175\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The remaining five pictures are from downtown Alicante.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36_9<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is Seneca square, a park which was opened this summer on the site of the old bus station. This is a low-income part of town, and some kind of recreative space is badly needed here. At the same time, the surrounding streets have been made more cyclist- and pedestrian-friendly by widening the sidewalks and lowering the speed limit to 30 km\/h:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_9.jpg\" alt=\"L1011528\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_10<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_10.jpg\" alt=\"L1011529\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_11<\/strong><br \/>\nParts of the square are constructed with skateboarders in mind:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_11.jpg\" alt=\"L1011536\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_12<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_12.jpg\" alt=\"L1011531\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>36_13<\/strong><br \/>\nSkater and spectators:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2014\/36_13.jpg\" alt=\"L1011533\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A quiet week with mostly work, exercise and other aspects of daily life.
