The weather was beautiful, and Peter showed me around the town before driving me to Gatwick airport taking a scenic route through the beautiful villages of Surrey. The phrase &#8220;England&#8217;s green and pleasant land&#8221; from the hymn <em>Jerusalem <\/em>definitely comes to mind. I was using a film camera for the first time in more than a year; while I appreciated the low weight of my Leica CL, I absolutely hated scanning the resulting negatives, especially since I had taken a film with me that was certainly not suitable for the sunny conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Guildford was Lewis Carroll&#8217;s last residence, so there are several statues around the town related to Alice in Wonderland, such as this one:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/L2006_1_11a.jpg\" alt=\"11a\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Leica CL, 40mm Summicron, Tri-X)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here is Peter in action with some ancient screw-mount Leica:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/L2006_1_19a.jpg\" alt=\"19a\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Leica CL, 40mm Summicron, Tri-X)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A walkway across the river in Guildford:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/L2006_1_23a.jpg\" alt=\"23a\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Leica CL, 40mm Summicron, Tri-X)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We ate lunch in a pub by the river; on the terrace there was a sign showing that the pub had the right priorities:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/L2006_1_24a.jpg\" alt=\"24a\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Leica CL, 40mm Summicron, Tri-X)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Walking back along the river, we saw two couples, one in stone and one in flesh:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/L2006_1_29a.jpg\" alt=\"29a\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Leica CL, 40mm Summicron, Tri-X)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The remaining images are from the drive to Gatwick, so I am not sure of the name of the villages.
