My friends from Denmark were still with me at the beginning of the week. Last week I showed them around Alicante. This week, I took them on a drive in the mountains to show them the countryside that I usually explore on my bicycle.<\/p>\n

\nOn the way from El Campello to Aig\u00c3\u00bces there is a cluster of post boxes which I have photographed from time to time. Notice the Dutch names:

\nAt the entrance to Aig\u00c3\u00bces there is a large mural, which I usually just pass on my bike. But this time we were on foot, so I actually took a closer look:

\nThis is not typical imagery in a small Spanish town, but Aig\u00c3\u00bces is not typical. It is inland and in many ways life is very old-style, but it is close enough to the coast (about 10 km) that foreigners and modernity and quirkiness are also part of life:

\nAnother mural, this time outside a house on the main street in Aig\u00c3\u00bces, called (what else?) Calle Mayor, or rather Carrer Major, in the local dialect Valenciano:

\nWe continued from Aig\u00c3\u00bces towards another mountain village, Relleu. On the way we passed these blooming almond trees:

\nWe then drove down to the coast at Villajoyosa. The beach was almost empty:

\nI have this thing about murals. Here is another one, on the beach promenade in Villajoyosa:

\nMonday evening I came home from work to find my friend Beata and my wife in full swing in the kitchen:

\nIt is artichoke season around here, so they are nice and cheap:

\nWhile waiting for the food, I amused myself taking close-up portraits of Cheeta who, as usual, was under the table, hoping for accidental drops:

\nLili the Swiss Goat Cheese Pusher making her weekly sales call at the office. She is very shy about being photographed, so I keep trying:

\nOn Saturday I want on a longish bike ride (86 km) south of Alicante. One of my two brief stops was in the harbour of Santa Pola:
