The first four are from a day trip to Santa Pola, a coastal town about 20 km south of Alicante. The rest are from a weekend visit to the Netherlands. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Main<\/strong><br \/>\nEven though it is November, it was still warm enough for some beach activity in Santa Pola:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46.jpg\" alt=\"3866\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nThe alternates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 1<\/em><br \/>\nThe Spanish play the lottery big time, and the vendors are everywhere:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt1.jpg\" alt=\"3861\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 2<\/em><br \/>\nA couple fishing in the harbour; rather, the man is fishing, the wife is just keeping him company:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt2.jpg\" alt=\"3870\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 3<\/em><br \/>\nSanta Pola lighthouse, a few km outside the town:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt3.jpg\" alt=\"3877\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, on Friday evening after work, I flew to the Netherlands to spend a weekend with my family.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 4<\/em><br \/>\nI have seen quite a lot of Schiphol airport lately:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt4.jpg\" alt=\"B161362\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 5<\/em><br \/>\nSaturday morning, when I came down to the living room, I was greeted by this familiar sight:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt5.jpg\" alt=\"B171389\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 6<\/em><br \/>\nThe sun was shining, the air was frosty, a perfect time to go for a walk:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt6.jpg\" alt=\"B171385\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 7<\/em><br \/>\nAs I said, there was frost in the air and on the ground:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt7.jpg\" alt=\"B181436\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 8<\/em><br \/>\nI have photographed these berries before; now they are shrivelled and obviously some birds have been feeding here:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt8.jpg\" alt=\"B181438\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 9<\/em><br \/>\nLater on Saturday, we went shopping in the centre of Almere. It is very modern, everything in this and the next two pictures has been built while we have lived in the town, since 2003:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt9.jpg\" alt=\"B171394\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 10<\/em><br \/>\nThe Sting:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt10.jpg\" alt=\"B171402\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 11<\/em><br \/>\nAll that glass has to be polished:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt11.jpg\" alt=\"B171412\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The last four images are from Utrecht, where we also went to walk and shop.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 12<\/em><br \/>\nWe stopped to eat one of Benelux&#8217;s absolute top contributions to world cuisine, Vlaamse Frieten:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt12.jpg\" alt=\"B181470\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 13<\/em><br \/>\nPigeons are wise to hang around, invariably something will be dropped on the ground:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt13.jpg\" alt=\"B181462\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 14<\/em><br \/>\nUtrecht is a university town, and so one can see chemical formulas on people&#8217;s clothes:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt14.jpg\" alt=\"B181471\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Alternate 15<\/em><br \/>\nEven angels need cash:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"uploads\/2007\/46alt15.jpg\" alt=\"B181474\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week&#8217;s pictures fall in two distinct groups.
